Chillida Leku, the iconic museum located in Hernani (Gipuzkoa), welcomes an unprecedented exhibition with the opening of *“Universo Maeght”*. This fascinating show proposes a dialogue between the works of renowned sculptor Eduardo Chillida and other prominent artists who shared his artistic trajectory alongside the historic dealer Aimé Maeght and his wife Marguerite.
The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Fondation Marguerite et Aimé Maeght and the Eduardo Chillida – Pilar Belzunce Foundation, marks one of the initial milestones in the centenary commemorations of Eduardo Chillida’s birth. Under the title *“Universo Maeght”*, the exhibition pays tribute to the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence (France), highlighting the work of artists who shared an environment of creation, utopia, and freedom within the Foundation.
With a total of 17 pieces, the exhibition presents works by internationally renowned artists such as Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Pablo Palazuelo, Julio González, Jean Arp, Barbara Hepworth, Antoni Tàpies, Joan Miró, and Marc Chagall. These pieces, on loan from the prestigious Maeght Foundation, represent a unique opportunity to explore the connection between the work of Chillida and that of his contemporaries.
Highlighting the importance of this collaboration, Mireia Massagué, director of Chillida Leku, emphasizes the key role of the Maeght institution in the development of Eduardo Chillida’s work. The exhibition, which runs until April 14, 2024, allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history of 20th-century sculpture, gaining a deeper understanding of Chillida’s work in its historical and artistic context.
In addition to the exhibition, Chillida Leku has organized a comprehensive educational program including guided tours, lectures, workshops, and activities for different age groups. Isabelle Maeght, administrator of the Maeght Foundation and granddaughter of Marguerite and Aimé Maeght, will deliver a lecture, while other activities—such as a guided meditation session and a dance workshop inspired by the exhibited sculptures—will enrich the visitor experience.
With financial support from the Department of Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, *“Universo Maeght”* promises to be a unique celebration of Eduardo Chillida’s artistic legacy and his connections with major creators of the last century.
